PRODUCTION LOG- ScoopIt!

SCOOP IT!

Today in our media lesson we looked at how we go on to scoop it and create an account so that we could scoop some important news reports or web pages or anything that related to the thriller codes and conventions which are relevant to what our film opening is about, to get some inspiration. This will be very useful, as I scopped some stories and news reports about kidnapping and girls being kidnapped and what happened, I did this so I could find out more about what happens which would help in our film opening.

this is a link to my scoop it where I scooped some interesting and useful stories to help me feel inspired and also to find out more information for my film opening.

PROJECT LOG- PLANNING

Today in lesson we planned what we were finally going to do for our film opening, we didn’t change anything we just added some more information to make the story have more tension. The idea that was added was that the girl’s father has a very high class job as a surgeon and he unfortunately failed his surgery on one of his patients, who was a young female. The patient that died was the daughter of the man who hurt the girl, which is the reason that he kidnapped her, revenge. I think it’s a very clever idea that in her flashback the man who has taken her calls her name ‘laura’ at the same time that her father does, making her wake up from her flashback.

MY GROUP- PLANNING

Planning: the brief

I am working in a group of 3, including myself and the other members in my group are Nicole shakhnazarova and Christina davies.  We have chosen brief 7 (video). The opening sequence from a new film including the title in any genre or mix of genres such as a comedy or a thriller. Together with a story board. Maximum length = 3 minutes.

SPOOKS

Spooks:

-          Genre: spy/crime

-          In London

-          Mi5

-          I watched the opening of a tv drama, at first there was the build up and then their was the opening which is repeated every week. We see someone who is clearly the leader of mi5. There was a lot of cross cutting between 2 people during a phone call, the audience are invited to find out what is sugar horse, which brings suspense. The opening titles all move very fast, lots of quick cuts and a quick screen showing a busy world.

THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW

The day after tomorrow:

-          Long tracking shot

-          Sense of excitement and adventure

-          Journey to a remote location

This film starts with a very long tracking shot, which is shown over the land of the Antarctic which suggests a sense of excitement, and also a sense of adventure. The shot is long as the direction pictures them traveling on a plane to this very hostile and magnificent location. The CGI is really realistic which makes us feel as if it’s real and that we are actually there, the colours in the opening scene are all white and light and dark blues which gives us a sense of majesty. All of the titles come up at the beginning with in the first 3 minutes of the film. Overall the opening creates a feel of magnificence, and all of the building up creates tension but also a sense of brilliance but as well, suspense.  The shift between the opening tracking shot and the live action is marked by the text.

THURSDAY 18TH- PRODUCTION LOG- PLANNING

Today in class we looked at a variety of different types of film openings to expand our mind to new ideas and so we could gather inspiration from them and use some of these ideas in our own film openings.  The two film openings we viewed where two different genres, this was good because it meant that we could see different types of openings and see which one inspired us, which will help us decide what type of film opening we want to create. The first opening we looked at was the English patient, which opened with a very close up shot of someone painting, the close up was focused on the hand. They appeared to be painting a mountain or something similar, after this they then had a cross dissolve to an aerial shot, which is now in Egypt. This shows what the person was painting and its very effective the way that they showed her painting before which created enigma. The other one we looked at was made in Dagenham, which opened with an estabiishing shot which makes the audience want to find out more, then it went straight into women working.

THURSDAY 18TH- PRODUCTION LOG- PLANNING

This is a picture of the plan we made in lesson, I'm working in a group of 3, myself Nicole Shakhnazarova and Christina Davies. We have chosen brief 7 which is a video, the opening sequence from a new film including the title and any genre or mix of genres such as comedy or thriller. Together with a story board. Maximum length= 3 minutes.

We came up with 8 initial plan ideas,  we then wrote them down on paper and made it into a type of diagram, each section showing a new idea.
1-    Starts of with a girl in the bath (inspired by rihanna’s stay video) and she has been taken away/ hurt/ kidnapped but she has escaped and found her way ack home, but is still damaged physically and emotionally.
2-    She doesn’t want anyone to realise what has happened to her and doest want people to see the bruises and marks she has on her body, she wants to forget it happened
3-    She starts humming to herself trying to forget about everything
4-    She is reminded of the pain she went through by flashbacks of when she was taken, and in the flashback you see the man taking her and tying her up with a rope.
5-     She gets into the bath to wash away the blood in hope that it will calm her down also
6-     She see’s the damage on her wrists from the rope burn from when the man had tied her up which makes the flash backs clearer and more frequent.
7-    She gets out of the bath and looks in the mirror and uses some of her make up (foundation, concealer, cover up) to cover up her bruises and scars as she doesn’t want her family, or anyone to know or realise what has happened.
8-     Lastly, she throws away the clothes she was wearing when she got taken as they are covered in blood and remind her of what happened. Sharply after the title sequence comes up.
